Plaque marking the location of Prince Alfred's attempted assassination, March 12 1868. On his first Royal visit to Australia, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh was shot in the back by an Irishman, Henry James O'Farrell.
The bullet missed the spine, and Prince Alfred recovered soon after. The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital was constructed as a memorial to the event, paid for by public subscription.
