Parramatta, Sydney, NSW, Australia
The former Female Orphan School, now part of the University of Western Sydney. Part of the government’s policy of providing care for young ‘orphaned’ girls and operated 1813 to 1850.
Originally sited on the corner of George and Bridge streets in Sydney, it was relocated to a much more remote area to avoid 'moral corruption' of the girls. The new building was modelled on Airds House, Elizabeth Macquarie’s (the Governor's wife) family home in Scotland.
