Boot Scrapers & Carriage Blocks

Both Boot Scrapers (to scrape the mud off your boots when you're entering a building) and Carriage Blocks (sometimes 'Mounting Blocks', to help you onto a horse or in to a carriage) have both disappeared from newer buildings - neither being necessary now.

Made obsolete by sealed roads and motorised vehicles respetively.

All Saints Anglican Church, Victoria Road. Built on land left in the will of the Reverend Samuel Marsden (who also bequeathed 200 pounds for the erection of the building), it was designed by James Houison and constructed 1846-1847.

Consecrated by Bishop Broughton of Sydney Jan 27 1848.
