Darling Harbour, Sydney, NSW, Australia
Construction of the 'Habourside' area, and of a section of Monorail. Both were built beside Cockle Bay (originally part of Long Cove), named for the numerous shells discarded here over thousands of years by the Eora people.
Shortly prior to construction, the area was home to the Darling Harbour Goods Yard and part of the Rozelle-Darling Harbour Goods Line. These had gradually fallen in to disuse, and were all-but-closed in 1981. They were demolished in stages, 1984-1988.
