    Near Dufftown, Moray, Scotland

    Balvenie Castle, near Dufftown, Moray. Originally known as Mortlach, it was built in the 12th century by a branch of the Comyn family (the Black Comyns) and extended and altered in the 15th and 16th centuries.

    Following the Battle of Arkinholm in May 1455, the castle owners were defeated and Balvenie was forfeited to the Crown. It was It was abandoned altogether in 1720s.
