The village of Berrima in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The name Berrima is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning either "southward" or "black swan".

Originally home to the Dharawal, Europeans first explored the area in the 1790s; with settlement beginning in 1830.

This particular building is the St Francis Xavier Church, Old Hume Highway. Designed by architect Augustus Pugin, constructed 1849 as 'St Scholastica'.
