Ultimo

Ultimo was the name of the estate of Dr John Harris, 34 acres granted to him by Governor King in 1803. The name stems from a mistake in a court case, which saw Harris set free instead of being court-martialled.

The Lansdowne Hotel on City Rd. The original was across the road (where the shopping centre currently is), and was demolished when the land was purchased by Grace Bros (about 1925).

In return, the current building - designed by architect Sidney Warden - was constructed.
