Annandale was the name of Major George Johnston's estate, which was here (he was born in Annan, Scotland). Johnston's Bay, Johnston's Creek and Johnston Street are all named after him.

St Brendan's Church, corner Collins & Johnston Streets. Constructed 1912-1913, opened 1 June 1913 by Most Reverend Dr Kelly - Archbishop of Sydney.
NB : the church school (St Brendan's Primary School) is sited on a separate block, one street over. Corner Collins & Trafalgar Streets.
