Johnston Street. Named for Captain George Johnston of the New South Wales Corps, who had a 140acre estate ('Annandale Farm') here from several grants in the 1790s.
Designed at a time (1877) when urban health was a major political issue, it was given a width of 100' (30.5m) in order to provide room for water and air flow.

These are the 'Witches’ Houses' (aka ‘Johnston Street group’). Designed by John Young, constructed around 1887.
