Carlingford : Water Storage Tanks
Known by various names prior to 1883, the area formally became 'Carlingford' on Jul 16 of that year. The name itself is thought to have been either describing similarities to the Irish town, or chosen to honour Lord Carlingford - the British Under-secretary to the Colonies.

These particular structures are the Above Ground Water Storage Tanks on Marsden Road. On the far right is the Mobbs Hill Reservoir, constructed in 1916 with a main laid from Ryde Pumping Station.
As the nearby population grew, the other tanks were added (in 1934). Initially open tanks, all were roofed 1960s-1970s.
