Gladesville : Rock End Cottage

This particular building is Rockend (sometimes 'Rock End') Cottage, Punt Road. Constructed late 1830s as an inn, it was home to Mrs Emily Barton from 1866-1909 (her grandson Andrew Barton (Banjo Patterson) also lived here for many years).
Later [1922-1974] used as an office for the nearby Harold Meggitt Limited Linseed Oil Company factory, the building was restored from 1980 - 1985 and is currently home to the Banjo Paterson Restaurant.
Gladesville, Sydney, NSW, Australia
The suburb 'Gladesville' in Sydney's Northern Suburbs. Originally known as 'Doody’s Bays to the Europeans (convict artist John Doody was granted land here in 1795), the current name is from the estate of a later resident - John Glade. The estate was named 'Gladesville' when it was subdivided and sold in November 1855.
