Gladesville : Trim Place

The suburb 'Gladesville' in Sydney's Northern Suburbs. Originally known as 'Doody’s Bays to the Europeans (convict artist John Doody was granted land here in 1795), the current name is from the estate of a later resident - John Glade. The estate was named 'Gladesville' when it was subdivided and sold in November 1855.

This particular location is Trim Place, Victoria Road. The result of the 1943 widening of the road (part of Gladesville Public School was demolished, and the remnant section converted to a small public park).

Named for James (Jim) Trim, a popular teacher who taught at the school from 1915 to 1959.

NB : In the front of the park stands a Seiko Civic Clock, beneath which is buried a 1986 time capsule to be opened in 2036. This commemorates the sesqi-centenary of the suburb's founding.
