Darling Harbour [1988-2013]
Formerly home to a number of heavy industries, Darling Harbour was transformed in the 1980s-1990s to the thriving commercial area you see today.
Named after Lieutenant-General Ralph Darling, Governor of New South Wales from 1825 to 1831.

Sydney's IMAX Theatre, Wheat Rd. Boasting the world's largest screen, the current building opened 1997, and was sold in 2005.
Currently earmarked for demolition, it's to be replaced by an office tower known as 'The Ribbon' (though I suspect other names will be used instead). Unusual building.
