Formerly home to a number of heavy industries, Darling Harbour was transformed in the 1980s-1990s to the thriving commercial area you see today.
Named after Lieutenant-General Ralph Darling, Governor of New South Wales from 1825 to 1831.

The SS South Steyne ( the world's largest operational steam ferry ) docked permanently in Darling Harbour, following 36 years of service as the Manly ferry. Built by Henry Robb in Leith, Scotland for the Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Company.
