Sydney, Australia

Centennial Park. Originally home to the Gadigal people, the area was known from 1816 onward as the 'Lachlan Swamp'. Nearly all (a small section remains) was converted into 220 hectares of urban park in 1888.

Beautiful place.

This particular structure is the Federation Pavilion, site of the official ceremony to mark the Federation of Australia on 1 Jan 1901. Designed by Alexander Tzannes, and erected around the 'Commonwealth Stone' in 1988.

NB : Remains of the original pavilion (it was largely made from plaster-of-paris, and deteriorated significantly) are now in Cabarita Park.
