    The National Monument of Scotland - a memorial to the Scottish soldiers and sailors who died fighting in the Napoleonic Wars.

    Designed 1823-1826 by Charles Robert Cockerell and William Henry Playfair, construction took place 1826-1829; at which point the project was simply abandoned due to lack of funds. It's known locally as 'Scotland's Disgrace'.

    Cairn commemorating the Vigil for a Scottish Parliament, Calton Hill. The vigil continued from the evening of the fourth Conservative general election victory in 1992 for 1980 days, until 11th September 1997, the day Scotland voted for devolution and the restoration of a Scottish Parliament.
