The Market St Vaults (aka Jeffrey Street Arches). Jeffrey Street was cleared and rebuilt as part of the City Improvement Act of 1867. The northern side of the street was not constructed due to public outcry, and the vaults were constructed circa 1875 so as to use the space whilst not blocking anyone’s view.

Originally owned by the North British Railway Company (and used for storing excess from the former Waverley Station Goods yard across the road), now part of the controversial Caltongate scheme.
