Walter Liberty Vernon (1846–1914). An English architect who migrated to Sydney, Australia and ultimately became Government Architect. Many of his buildings survive, and are heritage listed.

Behind him is a statue of his cat 'Trim', created by sculptor John Cornwell and erected in 1969.
