The Sainte-Chapelle ('Holy Chapel'), on the west of the Île de la Cité ('Island of the City'). Commissioned by Louis IX to house his collection of Passion relics (including Christ's Crown of Thorns), it formed part of the former royal palace (this is the oldest part of the city) together with the Palais de Justice and the Conciergerie.
Constructed 1242-1248.
