Now part of the United Kingdom, England takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. Up until 1284 it functioned as a Kingdom in its own right.

Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire. Originally a royal manor, it was granted to Robert, 1st baron de Ros in 1257.
Rebuilt and added to many times since, the present building dates to the early 19thC.
